Set in 1938, the story follows the Jewish Silberstein family during the tense months after the signing of the Munich Agreement. As ominous radio broadcasts and newsreels warn of the coming storm, the family continues their daily life, torn between fear and hope. This contrast between intimate family moments and the mounting threat of war gives the film its incredible emotional strength. 
A key figure in the story is inspired by a real-life hero—Sir Nicholas Winton, who came to Prague in 1938 and helped rescue 669 Jewish children.
