Džob: Tomáš Vorel's Comedy of Friendship, Work and Graffiti

Some friendships survive everything: school, careers, families, even completely different lives. The new Czech comedy that has just arrived in our store is about exactly that kind of friendship, and about the one secret passion that keeps it alive.

Job / Dzob DVD

Džob (Job, 2025) was directed by Tomáš Vorel, the man behind the beloved comedy Cesta z města, and it carries his unmistakable mix of humour and sharp observation. Two lifelong friends now live very different adult lives: one is a corporate professional with a family and a calendar full of meetings, the other a restless, unfulfilled artist. What still binds them together is their shared secret passion for graffiti, and the walls of the city become the one place where both of them can still be themselves.

Jiří Mádl leads the cast and shows once again why he belongs among the most interesting figures of contemporary Czech film. If you want to know more about his journey from teen star to acclaimed director, we wrote a whole portrait of him. Jan Kraus brings his dry wit to the screen alongside him, and Kristýna Leichtová, Vilma Cibulková and Tomáš Vorel jr. complete the ensemble.

It is a witty, warm look at friendship, work and staying true to yourself in a world that keeps asking you to grow up. And at a brisk 87 minutes, it is a perfect single evening film.

The DVD is in Czech, audio and subtitles alike, so save this one for the Czech speakers in your life.
