Beschreibung
Kytice is the most famous work of the Czech writer and poet Karel Jaromír Erben. It was first published in 1853 under the full title Kytice z pověstí národních. This remarkable collection of thirteen pieces inspired by folk literature highlights the value of interpersonal relationships. Erben pays great attention to women, mostly mothers, as he believes that the most fundamental human relationship is the bond between mother and child. The artist Martin Augustín accompanied this edition with exceptionally elaborate, sensitive, and delicate illustrations. After previously working on the equally famous work Máj by K. H. Mácha, he was invited to collaborate on this edition of Kytice as well. The connection of these two works through the artist is symbolic and serves as a lasting reminder of the revivalism of both Czech giants.
