Beschreibung
The Englishman Alfred North Whitehead (1841-1947) was one of the most penetrating and systematic minds of the first half of the 20th century. Originally a mathematician and logician, co-author of Principia Mathematica (with Bertrand Russell), he ultimately arrived at a general philosophical cosmology, most comprehensively expressed in his work Process and Reality (1929). The book provides a detailed analysis of the writings from Whitehead's "London period" (1910-1924), during which he sought to build a comprehensive philosophy of nature, "panphysics." Whitehead's "panphysics" is a bold and original synthesis of philosophical and scientific theory (formulated in mathematical language), yet it has not been sufficiently reflected in the Czech intellectual and linguistic environment. Michal Andrle's study not only pays off this debt but also seeks to evoke wonder at the fact that beneath the stagnant layer of textbook truths, one can discover a very vibrant fabric. The book is a revised version of the dissertation that the author defended in 2008 at the Department of Philosophy and History of Natural Sciences at Charles University.
