Beschreibung
The story takes place on the French whaling ship Saint Enoch, which leaves the port under the command of Captain Bourcart from Le Havre and sets sail towards the Pacific. Joining this voyage as his last is the old superstitious cooper Jean-Marie Cabidoulin, who completely demoralizes the crew with his gloomy, strange stories - and especially with his belief that the ship will encounter a gigantic sea monster that will destroy it.
