Nagorno-Karabakh is thousands of kilometers away from us, and yet today everyone knows it. It has become a victim of the power machinations of the former Soviet Union, a war zone from which several powerful states have made a practice range for their weapons. However, in Ogandžov's novel, we should not look for guaranteed sharpshooters, soldiers whose performances border on human capabilities, or thrilling espionage plots. It is a novel about ordinary people who, without their own doing, find themselves at the center of a war conflict, political behind-the-scenes machinations, and experience their lives and relationships, uncertainty about the future, fear of death, and hope that everything will end well for them and their country. The author draws people into the position of ordinary residents of Nagorno-Karabakh and, through the main character, a significant patriot and journalist, introduces them to the true state of affairs, the political background, and thus the entire conflict that continues to this day.
