Meditation is not just the privilege of the distant East, but also a lever of all wisdom. The East reminds us of this truth forgotten in the West, if we open ourselves to it with thoughtfulness and discernment, following the example of the Church Fathers, who in their time were able to embrace all the richness offered by the Greek world. Alphonse and Rachel Goettmann offer today's people not only a very concrete initiation into the teachings of the desert fathers but also a spiritual journey. This ancient tradition of Christianity, which is still very relevant today, invites us to a spiritual life, the source of which is the heart in the sense that the Bible gives to this word, that is, the very center of being, inseparably spiritual and physical. The book "Initiation into Meditation" belongs to the current of the great ethical turnaround of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The law can no longer be dictated to us from the outside; it speaks to us from the depths of man. Alphonse and Rachel Goettmann led Éthanie, a center for spiritual gatherings in eastern France near the city of Metz, and published the quarterly "Le Chemin" (The Way).
