The book aims to present to the Czech reader the situation and development of the Catholic Church in the People's Republic of China from its founding in 1949 to the present (2022). In addition to the historical context, it also provides modern insights into Chinese Catholics. It addresses not only the diverse groups of Catholics found in the territory of the People's Republic of China, which fall under the official, state-sanctioned Patriotic Association of Chinese Catholics, but also the believers in the so-called underground church, which is not recognized by Chinese authorities. The book describes the political and social dilemmas the church faces under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.
