Eleven-year-old Mája finds herself with her twin brother Adin and her parents in the Czech Republic after fleeing war-torn Sarajevo. Although she initially does not understand why she had to leave her country and friends, over time she falls in love with Czech culture and the complicated Czech language. But the feeling of guilt for leaving her grandmother in the occupied territory constantly haunts her... Mája's parents also have a tough time. They have lost their family, money, and homeland, but even in a foreign country, they must function and take care of their children's future.
