Nightingale Hospital is a renowned institution in the 1930s where young girls can train for the esteemed profession of nursing. Fate brings together three young women, each very different. For poor Dora, working in the hospital is a dream escape from home, where she is tormented by her hated stepfather. Aristocratic Millie fought for her studies to escape marriage. And shy Helen, the daughter of the hospital director, has no other choice, but because of her supposed privilege, the other nurses can't stand her. From three outsiders, they become the closest of friends. However, life will not be kind to any of them.
