Beschreibung
The publication is based on the assumption that structural inequalities and discrimination against non-heterosexual people exist and have existed even more in the past. Their life experience, having to cope with the rejection of their natural social environment, system, politics, state, and its institutions, is a significant and even irreplaceable source of cultural production. The chapters of the book, divided into four sections, showcase interpretations of subjects, texts, images, and designs that can be read as queer. The temporality of such reading comes to the forefront, along with the necessity to reassess canonical qualitative standards of high culture. Furthermore, the authors address the question of how much it is possible to connect private life (social and sexual) with artistic and literary creation, how much queer life experience is an advantage, and how much it is a handicap to professional success. Why is it, on one hand, an integral part of reading and interpreting the works of non-heterosexual people, yet there is no causal relationship between the works and life circumstances?
