Beschreibung
What is property? or The Search for the Principles of Law and Government (1840) is a relatively early but perhaps the most famous text by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon. It begins with the often-quoted phrase "Property is theft." It should be clarified that he is not against any private property, but rather against the ownership of real estate, land, and production capital that yields capital gains, which are considered unjust. A letter to Mr. Blanqui on property (1841) is dedicated to Adolph Blanqui, who was the brother of the more famous French revolutionary Auguste Blanqui. In fact, it is a sort of continuation of the treatise What is Property?, in which Proudhon develops and clarifies his views.
