Description
The Magical Hat / Divotvorny klobouk DVD
Synopsis
A student, who inherited a worthless three-cornered hat instead of the expected money, devises a trick with his accomplice to fool a gullible merchant. They sell the hat to him as a miraculous item that supposedly absolves the wearer from paying anyone anything. This musical film, based on the theatrical farce by V. K. Klicpera, was directed by Alfréd Radok from his own screenplay. Immediately accused of cosmopolitanism, the film was repeatedly recut at the behest of the Barrandov studio management but still led to Radok's dismissal, largely influenced by Otakar Vávra. Despite this, the film remains notable for its poetic, detail-focused cinematography and its unconventional music for the time. Alongside established film actors Zdeněk Dítě, Josef Kemr, and Saša Rašilov, Rudolf Pellar and especially Alena Kreuzmannová received significant opportunities.
