Synopsis
The film Magic House, directed by Otakar Vávra in 1939 and based on the novel by Karel Josef Beneš, tells the story of Marie Ungrová, a spoiled daughter of a prominent industrialist who survives a plane crash. She is found unconscious by Vilém Balvín near the Moravian village of Bítov and taken to his home. Awakening with total amnesia, Marie stays in the "magic house," where she meets Vilém's younger son, Martin. A tender romance develops between Marie and Martin as they search for her true identity. The film features notable actors like Adina Mandlová, Leopolda Dostalová, Růžena Nasková, Terezie Brzková, Zdeněk Štěpánek, and Eduard Kohout. Jan Roth's cinematography captures the atmospheric autumn mists and dreamy ambiance, complemented by František Škvor's lyrical music.
