Synopsis
The Long Journey / Daleka cesta
A young Jewish doctor marries a "racially pure" Czech colleague at the beginning of the occupation to save her life. However, she is unable to save her parents, who are taken away in the first transports to the Terezín ghetto. Directed by the renowned theater director Alfréd Radok in 1948, "Distant Journey" was initially shown briefly in non-Prague cinemas. The film did not receive approval from the rising totalitarian regime and was archived, though it found great success abroad, garnering enthusiastic responses across Europe and America. It premiered on television only in 1991. The film stands out for its modern editing, expressionist cinematography by Josef Střecha, and haunting music by Jiří Sternwald. This extraordinarily powerful drama has retained its strong emotional impact over the years, featuring an unconventional cast and outstanding performances by Blanka Waleská, Otomar Krejča, Zdeňka Baldová, and Eduard Kohout.

Synopsis
Vintage Car / Dedecek automobil
An airplane lands at an airport, unloading various items from the early 20th century, including an old car. A young mechanic and a flight attendant examine an album of faded photographs, and a story unfolds before their eyes. The history of motorism in Bohemia begins with Laurin and Klement establishing a motorcycle factory. In 1904, the first motorcycle races were held in Dourdan, France, with Czech participation. Czech mechanic František meets and falls in love with Nanette, the daughter of French mechanic Frontenac. Czech racer Vondřich finishes second due to a mechanical failure. In 1905, the race is held again, and Vondřich, now equipped with spare parts, wins. František and Nanette, who had been corresponding all year, reunite. Following the motorcycle boom, automobiles begin to be produced everywhere, and in 1909, the first car race is held in Gaillon, France. The race is won by Czech racer Count Kolovrat. František, now Kolovrat's mechanic, marries his beloved Nanette in the local church.
