Description
The Hen and the Sexton / Slepice a kostelnik DVD
Synopsis
One of the most embarrassing films of Vlasta Burian was created as a post-war pass to his further cinematic work. In this crude, artless farce, he portrayed a simple-minded Moravian villager and church sexton who is persuaded by a village kulak to engage in sabotage. Due to his bumbling, however, he is discovered, allowing the hardworking cooperative members to peacefully celebrate the harvest. Burian struggles heavily with the South Moravian dialect used throughout the film, eliciting not so much laughter as pity; indeed, one feels embarrassed for him. The naive sexton, Kodýtek, is convinced by a wealthy villager to engage in acts of sabotage and to distribute slanderous leaflets. However, thanks to the farmer Pěknice, his activities end in disgrace.
