Synopsis
Student Ríša, more interested in revelry and mischief than his law studies, incurs his father's wrath, who refuses to pay his debts any longer. Ríša, not entirely a lost cause, decides to spend time with his uncle, a priest in Moravia, to prepare for his exams. At a rural dance, he meets Helenka, the shy daughter of a gamekeeper. Captivated by her charm, which is unlike any woman he's known, Ríša falls deeply in love. However, as days pass, he grows bored with their idyllic relationship and, out of spite, recounts tales of his former debauched life and the hearts of beautiful women he's broken - mostly fabrications. Helenka is hurt by these stories and refuses to see Ríša again. Angered, the priest uncle kicks Ríša out. Desperate, Ríša searches for Helenka to reconcile. Just before his train departure to Prague, Helenka forgives him.
