Synopsis
In Okouzlená (1942), directed by Otakar Vávra, Nataša Gollová stars in a romantic story about unrequited love and life's trials. Loosely inspired by František Götze's novel "Paní našich snů," the film focuses on a young girl captivated by the theater. Vávra, who also reworked the screenplay, collaborates with his regular team, including cinematographer Ferdinand Pečenka, whose work beautifully captures the Czech countryside, architect Jan Zázvorka, and composer Jiří Srnka. Gollová, typically cast in comedic roles, delivers a multi-faceted portrayal of Lenka Bártová, a character grappling with complexities in life and love. Karel Höger adds depth as her emotionally and morally conflicted lover. The film also features prominent Czech theater personalities like Leopolda Dostalová, Marie Glázrová, Václav Vydra Sr., and from the younger generation, Jan Pivec, Miloš Nedbal, and František Filipovský.
