Description
The Tales of Buchlov Castle by Alois Jašek (1900–1950) first saw the light of day in a serialized form in Slovácké noviny and soon after in two slim booklets in 1923–1924 published by Karel Novotný in Uherské Hradiště, and in a somewhat shortened version in 1992. The latest complete edition is published in its original archaic language form, supplemented by Jašek's later text Impressions from the Tomb, and enriched with resonant dark graphics by academic painter Pavel Trucly. He created them uniquely for the "tales" after several inspirational personal experiences in the corners of the castle courtyards and the interiors of rooms and winding corridors. While reading the book, we experience the inner impressions from the author's walks through the castle, cellars, and corridors filled with mysterious sounds and the invisible presence of supernatural beings – water and forest fairies, devils, or the souls of the deceased. The Tales of Buchlov Castle is a unique work among the series of Buchlov publications that have been emerging since the first half of the 19th century. The A5-sized book has hard covers, 136 pages, a dust jacket, and sewn binding.
