Description
Hana Heřmánková, the author of the whimsical travelogue Traveling in the Best Years and the sarcastic book Our Wonderful Mommy, is a spontaneous storyteller of real situations and stories. Her observational talent dominates, favoring the humorous aspects of life and small absurdities. While she is capable of evoking emotion, especially when writing about children, it is always framed in a harsher context and in straightforward language. Throughout her professional life, she has been a pediatrician and adolescent doctor in several countries, most recently in Germany, where she emigrated with her husband, who shares the same profession, and their three children in 1984, and where they still live today. She is a mix of Czech and German elements, living near Hanover but often staying at her cottage in Rumburk. Her third book may be beneficial for readers interested in comparing German and Czech, as she has loosely translated two-thirds of the texts into German. The book is autobiographical and is accompanied by photographs from the family archive.
