Description
In a new version, the extraordinary work by Dürrenmatt, often compared to Brecht's The Threepenny Opera due to its original subtitle Opera about a Private Bank, is released. This version has the subtitle Comedy about a Private Bank. In the story of the fall of a bank, which has been traditionally based on crime for five generations, the author presents an irresistible critical yet humorous perspective through the eyes of a new emerging generation on the incompatibility of capital and humanity. In a world where power is intertwined with the financial interests of rulers, there is no place for democracy and freedom. Regarding his play, where prose transitions into song, the author states: "In Frank the Fifth, people sing when they lie – in The Threepenny Opera, when they speak the truth." In a translation by Jiří Stach, it is published as the 166th volume of the D series.
