The book by Czech theaterologist Jaromír Kazda deals with the private and professional lives of two prominent actresses, mother Jiřina Stránská and daughter Klára Jerneková. Jiřina Stránská (1912–1999) was active during her prime in the interwar avant-garde theater E. F. Burian D 34–41. Members of Déčko had to be able to sing and dance, master musically stylized choral recitation that did not shy away from jazz inspirations and sound imagery. After the theater was closed by the Gestapo in 1941, Stránská moved to the Prague City Theaters and married director Karel Jernek. She remained there until 1949, when she had to leave for political reasons and due to intrigues. From 1960 to 1974, she taught dramatic education at the People's School of Arts, mediating the artistic legacy of E. F. Burian. Klára Jerneková (1945–2003) acted in high school, at the E. F. Burian Theater, and from 1966 to 2000, she was a member of the National Theater. Her acting range was broad. With her distinctive style, showcasing feminine fragility and emotional vulnerability, as well as zest for life and a sense of humor, she portrayed dozens of major character roles and smaller parts.
