Narrator Arne meets Daniela in a restaurant. As a documentarian, he is intrigued by the story of her deceased grandmother Jitka. She belonged to the so-called 'hidden children' who survived the war in isolation, often with the help of benefactors risking their own lives. However, her 'benefactors' abused her, and after the war, she discovered that she had lost her entire family. The traumas she experienced reflected not only in her own life but also in the lives of her children and granddaughter Daniela due to a phenomenon known as transgenerational trauma transfer. Arne embarks on a quest to uncover the troubled fates of the family with an unclear intention to film his dream documentary and discovers that not everything was as grandmother Jitka had told at home. Suddenly, much more pressing questions arise: Why did she try to 'rewrite' her history even in front of her closest ones, and what does that mean for them? And how to untangle the intricate web of lies that involves more people than expected?
