Description
The collection of documents from the repressive organs of the Soviet Union recalls the tragedy of the Czech minority during the Great Terror in Soviet Ukraine from 1937 to 1938. It contains a total of 100 NKVD documents published in a bilingual format, in the Russian original and Czech translation, which illustrate the nature of Soviet state terror applied against Czechs. They were most often accused in fabricated trials of being members of non-existent nationalist counter-revolutionary organizations, while in reality, they 'sinned' only by their nationality. The collection presents several types of documents: reports on the uncovering of alleged 'Czech espionage agencies', statistical reports on the course of mass actions, and especially documents from the investigation of individuals – reports on arrests, interrogation protocols, and reports on executions. Based on research so far, it has been confirmed that the Soviet regime murdered more than 660 Czechs on the territory of Ukraine. This represents the worst political repression against Czechs in the territory of the Soviet Union.
