Synopsis
Lewis Milestone’s 1930 anti-war adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s novel follows a group of young German recruits during the First World War. Led by Paul Bäumer, they move from youthful idealism to bitter disillusionment as trench life, combat and loss expose the reality of war. The film stars Lew Ayres, Louis Wolheim, John Wray and Arnold Lucy.
