Beschreibung
Richard II belongs to the series of English historical dramas written by Shakespeare. It narrates the events that took place following Richard's usurpation of the throne in 1399 and the subsequent rise of the Lancaster dynasty. The drama revolves around the loss, preservation, and conquest of power, but, unlike previous historical works, Shakespeare goes beyond the ups and downs of political maneuvering and delves into the human condition of the king, the behavior of men, and the reasons for their actions. Its stylized language, a reflection of the ceremony and pomp of the medieval court, while leaving room to express lament, coexists with the elegiac and personal tone so characteristic of this drama. Ángel-Luis Pujante, a professor at the University of Murcia and a recognized specialist in Shakespeare's work, is the author of this excellent translation, which is accompanied by a rigorous analysis of the historical basis of the drama and its unique literary characteristics.
