These relationships help the main character not only cope with the pain after her life partner leaves her but also teach her to enjoy life. The immediacy of play, imagination, and belonging flows through the panels like a river occasionally stirred by the inevitable rapids of pain, which nothing can stop on its own path to self-discovery and independence.
