The year is 1919, in the south of France, the war is slowly coming to an end and the time for returns has arrived. However, the trains are bringing as many soldiers as they are tragedies into the country. The Rateau and Châton families are waiting for the return of their men who fought on the front lines. In the shadow of the trees in the large garden, hope is the poison that suffocates the heart. Only Alphonse Rateau, the husband of the storyteller, and Paul, the neighbor's son, return alive. After his father leaves, little René decides to take over the family house to build a huge slide that will cut through it from top to bottom.
