Smalandské temno is an extensive graphic novel whose main character is a Swedish comic book author, a homosexual fascinated by Italian fascism, who is torn between selfless empathy and a tendency towards violence. Henrik Bromander, in his epic work, pushes the boundaries of what comics can be. The Darkness of Småland is a celebration of the healing power of creativity and a disturbing diagnosis of the present directly from Northern Europe, where the political winds are increasingly cooling.
