Two girls, Dominika and Eliška, come from opposite ends of the country. Their seemingly unrelated stories never bring them together, yet their lives are fatefully connected. Dominika died a violent death seven years ago, and her killer was arrested and sentenced. The convicted man’s desperate father refuses to accept the verdict, however, and asks Captain David Winkler to reopen the old case and find the real culprit. At the same time, seventeen-year-old Eliška disappears without a trace. On a freezing December night, she heads to a bus stop but never leaves from there. Hana Vítková and her team begin searching for the girl, and it soon becomes clear that Eliška’s disappearance may be disturbingly connected to Dominika’s long-ago murder. As the investigators uncover the truth, they discover it is darker than they could have imagined, and that some secrets were meant to remain buried forever. Will they find Eliška in time? This Czech-language crime novel is by Veronika Martinková.
