The book describes a dramatic search for the fifteenth part of the late ancient collection Corpus Hermeticum, attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, the father of all magicians, mystics, and philosophers. This collection was at the origin of the doctrine we now refer to as hermeticism. The lost work was, according to all indications, part of the library of Ema Destinnová at the castle in Stráž nad Nežárkou, and later came into the possession of Prague lawyer Karel Hartmann. However, he perished in the Holocaust's frenzy. Where did the book go afterward? This is what the hero of this story attempts to uncover. He soon finds himself in a dual world. In the first, seemingly rational world, he solves cases as a lawyer, often dominated by human pettiness, stupidity, and the vile calculation on display in expensive restaurants. In the second, seemingly irrational world, he steps step by step towards the lost book, following clues left by architects of past centuries on the walls of Prague's houses. ***** Aleš Rozehnal is a lawyer and serves as an associate professor at the Faculty of Law of Charles University.
