Charles de Gaulle - Proměny Francie, Evropy a světa – Syruček Milan (2025)

The author does not hide that he is a great admirer of French President General Charles de Gaulle, but at the same time, he is able to objectively portray some of his life problems and failures. Unlike other biographical works by the author, he did not personally meet de Gaulle, but he spoke with several of his family members and collaborators, especially during his three-year work stay in France and during his current annual visits to France. He, of course, visited all the places where de Gaulle worked and lived. The first edition of this book in 1975 was praised by the then French ambassador in Prague, Emmanuel d'Harcourt, who was a close collaborator of de Gaulle. He also appointed a diplomat for regular meetings with the author, of which a total of 43 took place. Their content included a number of remarks on our then-current politics, which Milan Syruček directly conveyed to our then-president Gustáv Husák, and which could therefore contribute to solving several issues in mutual relations. For this, he was invited to France for an official visit three times.
