Beschreibung

The publication (Studio) Ballet Prague – The New Wave of Czechoslovak Choreography is the first comprehensive overview that presents the history and significance of the pioneering ensemble Ballet Prague (or Studio Ballet Prague, as it was called in its early days). The ensemble, founded in the early 1960s by our most progressive choreographers Pavel Šmok and Luboš Ogoun, became a small miracle in Czech ballet art. This popular science book presents dance history in a lively and readable form. With the help of memories from dancers who experienced this flourishing period and danced in Ballet Prague, as well as programs, period articles, and a range of Czech and foreign expert critiques, the book uncovers the conditions in which the ensemble operated at the time, the creative roots of both significant choreographers, and the genesis of the most famous works that were created for its repertoire. An integral part of the book is the visual documentation that accompanies the reader throughout the publication. The book is published with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the State Fund for Culture, the Czech Music Foundation, the Foundation Fund, and the Pavel Šmok Institute and the Prague Chamber Ballet. It is the first title in the Pavel Šmok Institute's editorial series "Studio Ballet Prague and the Prague Chamber Ballet – History and Personalities."
