Vlastimil Hort analyzes 38 of his own games in the book, which he considers the most interesting. Additionally, half of these games are commented on by top Czech and Slovak players such as Navara, Ftáčnik, Hráček, Štohl, and others. A separate chapter written by Robert Cvek deals with the openings that Grandmaster Hort had in his repertoire, spanning about 50 pages. Introduction by Vlastimil Babula, conclusion by Jána Plachetka, indexes, tables. Vlastimil Hort, born in 1944, is a 6-time champion of Czechoslovakia and a 3-time champion of West Germany. In the second half of the 1960s and in the 1970s, he was among the best players in the world, and in 1977 he qualified for the Candidates Tournament. After the Interzonal Tournament in Sousse in 1985, he emigrated to Germany, where he now lives, but he often returns to the Czech Republic. He has played in many Olympiads, including Lucerne in 1982, where he played on board 1 and Czechoslovakia finished in 2nd place. In the USSR-World match in 1970, he played on board 4 and won 2.5 : 1.5 against Lev Polugaevsky.
