Beschreibung
The book of eleven stories titled The Pompeian Dog is about art and artists, but perhaps more about what their art does to them, why they struggle, why they are insecure, or conversely, happy, and how they search for and find themselves. These stories take place in various countries and different times, some in the immediate present, others reaching into the future. They are stories of a painful freedom that no one would wish for, and we have no idea what all their protagonists must endure to truly feel like artists. Are they romantic stories? Probably not in the original sense of the word; rather, they are extraordinary. Love and death occur within them, betrayal arises, faith and addiction develop, immense pleasures are experienced, but also painful losses; in fact, all these stories are a kind of Venetian mirror of ordinary life. Part of and at the same time the artistic counterpart of the book are the smoke paintings of Magdalena Jetelová, who also designed its overall artistic solution.
