In the countries of Western Europe occupied by the Nazis during World War II, aiding persecuted Jews risked confiscation of property, imprisonment, and in the worst case, deportation to a concentration camp. In occupied Poland, anyone who hid Jews or helped them was shot without trial, along with their entire family. Any slightest expression of solidarity with Jews fleeing the ghetto could lead to the annihilation of an entire family. Nevertheless, thousands of Poles found ways to help Jews. The Israeli Institute Yad Vashem has honored over six thousand Poles with the title "Righteous Among the Nations" - more than a quarter of the total number of honorees; there are more Poles than members of any other nation. However, according to estimates by several historians, this is just the tip of the iceberg, representing those whose assistance could be notarized years later. This book is dedicated to these individuals, their fates, motivations, and actions.
