Beschreibung
The Volhynian massacre – ethnic cleansing of Polish inhabitants in Ukraine, which took place from February 1943 to February the following year. Why do neighbors begin to murder their neighbors? Who and why finds the strength to remain humane amidst the frenzy? How difficult is it to choose between 'us' and 'them'? Can the spiral of hatred and revenge be stopped? Reporter Witold Szabłowski spoke with witnesses of the tragic events that exceed our imagination with their brutality, studied archival sources and diaries. One of the important figures in the book is also Jan Jelínek, a Czech evangelical priest who lived in Kupičiv, Volhynia, from 1937. He hid all the persecuted in his parish: Jews, Poles, and Ukrainians.
