Beschreibung
Do you know what it feels like when your husband doesn't come home one day? Imagine that a healthy person leaves for work and never returns, that he will never caress you, that you will never make love, that he will never hold your hand... You can't say: there are millions of men. Yours is one. The book Miners' Widows presents authentic authorized stories of miners' widows from the oldest to the youngest against the backdrop of historical changes in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, when mining was sometimes seen as the showcase of socialism and at other times as a phenomenon condemned and ridiculed. The book thus seeks to shed light on the phenomenon of mining in a different light and to relativize the long-standing clichés associated with it. The publication is released with a foreword by Martin Jemelka, a historian of the Czech working class, and a wealth of accompanying period materials. The project is realized with the financial support of the statutory city of Ostrava.
