How is art examined in the laboratory? What is the meaning of art? Why should society support the creation and reception of works of art? These age-old questions of philosophers are now more frequently raised from scientific positions. Psychologists, biologists, and neuroscientists are trying to uncover the powerful influence of works of art. The answers found are not revolutionary, but it seems that something new is happening in aesthetics because of them. The book follows some contemporary attempts to bring together two ways of discourse – philosophical reflection and scientific research on what appears to be the same subject: the work of art. The publication of the book was made possible by financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic.
