This book recalls the 1980s, when the Porta festival swept into Plzeň, drawing huge crowds to Lochotín and inspiring a chorus of 30,000 voices. Michal Jupp Konečný, the festival’s long-time dramaturge, looks back on those wonderful years, filled with memorable encounters, friendships and experiences. Memories of individual festival editions and the musicians who competed for the audience’s favour unfold like an old photograph album, accompanied by hundreds of photographs and a music CD. Jiří Sláma of Plzeň’s AVIK has compiled 25 songs that audiences sang together then and continue to sing today. The book, in Czech, is dedicated to fans of folk and country music and to everyone who came to Plzeň in all kinds of weather to be there.
