LEOŠ ŠIMÁNEK and his wife Lenka agreed with his brother and sister-in-law to meet again after a year at their cottage in the Orlické Mountains to share more travel experiences. This time, they recounted a three-month journey through New Zealand – for several days they talked about one of the most beautiful corners of our planet. The islands of the long white cloud – as the Māori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, call their land – attract many tourists each year, but few venture to the antipodes in winter. The Šimánek family knew this, so they traveled with their son and daughter during our summer months and experienced the local amazing nature even more interestingly. The geothermal areas on the North Island were absolutely fascinating in clouds of steam, and the freshly snow-capped peaks of the South Island looked even more imposing. Leoš Šimánek and his family traveled both islands literally crisscross, not only by car but also on foot, horseback, and in a canoe. They enjoyed perfect skiing on the slopes of the massive volcanoes and took a hike in the Southern Alps to the highest mountain of the archipelago.
