This Czech-language travel account describes Leoš Šimánek’s two-year journey with his family along the Pacific Crest Trail, following a horse trail through California, Oregon and Washington from the Mexican border to Canada. The route leads from dry southern hills to magnificent mountains with jagged peaks, past gigantic glacier-covered volcanoes, through deep forests and broad meadows, and along clear streams flowing from emerald mountain lakes full of trout. The mountains are home to countless wild animals, including lynxes, wolves, cougars and bears, while the local people the travelers encounter are remarkably friendly and hospitable. Šimánek and his wife travel with their nine-year-old son during the first year and their three-year-old daughter during the second, covering more than 4,000 kilometers on foot and horseback through the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range. Their journey is filled with unusual and often dramatic experiences, accompanied by mostly previously unpublished photographs.
