The thirteenth, penultimate volume of the well-known historical series addresses the period at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when, after the completion of the national revival, young Czech society, through its multifaceted activity, caught up with developmental delays and gained confidence through some surprising successes or advances, which was so necessary for the soon restoration and building of an independent state. The latest volume of the Journeys brings closer Czech achievements in the field of technology, such as the beginnings of aviation (Jan Kašpar), cinematography (Ing. Jan Kříženecký), architecture (the world-unique Czech cubism, the path to modern functionalism), literature (Jaroslav Vrchlický and his generation), and sculpture (Oto Gutfreund and other creators). Journeys 13 also pays attention to a remarkable chapter that has been almost overlooked in Czech historical literature - the conflictual struggle for higher education, social and professional opportunities, and equal rights for women.
