Beschreibung
A unique illustrated publication summarizes two decades in the life of the city and, in addition to three hundred photographs, provides an overview of important events, profiles of personalities, and a number of period documents across 144 pages. Year by year, the book clearly maps the development of Beroun in the new democratic conditions, but it also offers a brief visual excursion into the time before the November events of 1989. The concept of the book was created by Kameel Machart, who drew, among other sources, from the visual appendices of the city chronicle authored by Jiří Kopřiva, as well as from the archives of Beroun photographers Pavel Palusky, Zdeněk Zůna, and others. Jitka Soukupová significantly contributed to the processing of the textual materials. Authors' note: The book was not created easily. The task of mapping two turbulent decades in the life of the city can be approached in many ways. Each perspective will be different, from a different angle, and from different viewpoints. Therefore, we would like to clarify the principles and goals that we set for ourselves before publishing this book, which – as we hope – we managed to adhere to and fulfill during its creation. First and foremost, we wanted to avoid personal comments that would only reflect on a time that is still too recent and a history that is still too fresh...
