Beschreibung
A representative selection provides readers with three popular works illustrating various forms of Tibetan literature: a historical chronicle by a Buddhist monk written in classical language as well as more popular literary genres. From the Tibetan originals Snang-sa-’od-de-’bum-pa’i rnam-thar (published by Qinghai Renmin Chubanshe, Xining 1958), Bja sprel gtam-rgjud (published by Qinghai Renmin Chubanshe, Xining 1957), and Gjalrab salwä melong (published by Minzu Chubanshe, Beijing 1981), translated and provided with commentary, a preface, and notes by Prof. PhDr. Josef Kolmaš, DrSc.) The translations included in the publication Classic Tibetan Stories are united not only by the language of the originals but also by the translator's identity – Professor Josef Kolmaš, the founder of Czechoslovak Tibetan studies. Professor Kolmaš has published dozens of scientific studies both domestically and abroad, contributing to the development of Tibetan studies as an independent scientific discipline, particularly since the 1960s. His studies on Sino-Tibetan relations have co-created one of the directions of Tibetan research.
