Moltmann's most striking and arguably most important book views the entirety of theology from the perspective of Christ's cross as God's cross. It is this emphasis that has indelibly marked its author in the history of theology. He dared to radically think through the death of God on a trinitarian foundation to the very end: in Jesus Christ, God the Son dies, and in His death, the Father Himself experiences the death of His fatherhood. Human death thus becomes part of God's life on the cross, which is then proven to be stronger in the resurrection. With this bold conception, Moltmann finally added the central piece to the mosaic of Christian tradition that had been missing for centuries.
