Odysea – McDevitt Jack (2024)

A long period of political correctness and the neglect of the space program, primarily in the form of constant government budget cuts to the Academy, inevitably had to lead to disaster. During a long jump through hyperspace, one of the overloaded and poorly maintained faster-than-light ships disappeared, went out of radio contact, or got lost in the unknown. The media frenzy surrounding this event describes the space program as a black hole where taxpayers' money disappears. The campaign against the Academy is led by none other than the controversial journalism star Gregory MacAllister. He demands an end to research and the reallocation of funds for a last-ditch effort to save Earth from global warming. The Academy's operations chief, Priscilla Hutch Hutchinson, will make a desperate attempt to attract public interest in interstellar travel. She sends a mission into deep space to study the mysterious black spherical spacecraft that have been spotted around many research facilities and popular space destinations. The flight is initially headed towards an ancient orbital temple or a thousands-of-kilometers-long hypercolossus, and the skeptical critic MacAllister is set to participate.
