The book allows for practical orientation in the diagnosis and treatment of various sleep disorders in adults and children, through very popular and sought-after case studies. The presented information is based on the long-term experiences of the authors working in sleep laboratories and specialized clinics. The publication was prompted primarily by the ever-increasing incidence of insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea across all age groups in connection with civilizational influences. Untreated sleep disorders represent a significant risk factor for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. They cause daytime microsleeps, increase the risk of accidents and injuries, and lead to a deterioration in mental performance, mood, and quality of life. They are also a common comorbidity of psychiatric, internal, and neurological diseases. Timely diagnosis and treatment thus become an important part of the work not only of general practitioners or pediatricians; it often requires a multidisciplinary approach involving collaboration among specialists in neurology, internal and pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology, and dentistry.
