The plot of the latest story from the successful series Memories of the Executioner of České Budějovice is set in the year 1645, during the final days of the Thirty Years' War, which fortunately did not affect the fates of the residents of the picturesque South Bohemian town. It seems impossible to find the perpetrator of this horrific act when no one knows who the victim is. What role did the wandering astrologer from Venice, who recently settled in Budějovice and suddenly disappeared, play here? Alongside Judge Kleineschnitzel, scribe Petronius also follows the trail of the crime, but each comes to completely different conclusions. Who is closer to the truth? In the end, the "beautiful witch," herbalist Bohunka, also finds herself in prison. A harsh verdict is to be pronounced, but a surprise is not long in coming...
