A large garden, an orchard, a beehive, a chicken coop, and a herd of alpacas provide them with most of their living needs. All of this is watched over by a large black dog named Buddy, who has returned bloodied several times from chasing wolves and bears. He is a smart and brave dog. What brought them to this remote mountain valley? It was a desire for independence from the fast-paced civilization, an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the endless race of life that led nowhere. How did the author get from a small Moravian village to the banks of the Lillooet River among wolves and bears?
